Sisal Mats and Frames: Customization Options for Your Retail Range
Start with the scratching surface
A framed sisal mat combines a scratching surface with a home-friendly finish. For brands and retail buyers, develop the mat, frame, backing and intended use together.
TerraFaser primarily offers 70% sisal and 30% polypropylene scratching material, and can also provide 100% sisal according to customer requirements. Contact our sales team to discuss the right option for your project. These percentages refer to the specified scratching material, not the complete product. Confirm composition, weave, texture and construction through sampling.
Review a surface sample for feel and a complete sample for fit, proportions and use in the intended space.
The final composition should be agreed for the project, including any backing or binding. Keep those details consistent across the approved sample, order specification and retail description. This gives customers a clear material choice without confusing the scratching surface with the construction that supports it.
Three frame profiles, three visual directions
The frame pairing catalog presents three profiles. Select a visual direction, then confirm dimensions and construction on a sample.
| Frame profile | Visual character | Collection direction |
|---|---|---|
| Square Edge | Flat face, defined corners | Simple, contemporary outlines |
| Flat Beveled Edge | Straight, sloping face | An angled transition from frame to mat |
| Curved Stepped Edge | Curved profile with stepped layers | Decorative, furniture-inspired collections |
Profile is a design choice, not a durability rating. Check finished edges, corner joints, mat clearance and proportions on the assembled sample.
Six frame construction options
Specify the base material separately from its finish. A wood-grain appearance does not identify solid wood.
| Catalog option | Base material | Surface or material direction |
|---|---|---|
| Solid wood | Pine, oak or black walnut | Selected wood and agreed finish |
| Pine + PVC veneer | Pine | PVC decorative surface |
| Pine + wood veneer | Pine | Wood veneer surface |
| MDF + PVC veneer | MDF | PVC decorative surface |
| MDF + wood veneer | MDF | Wood veneer surface |
| PS | Polystyrene | Project-specific profile and finish |
Compare quotations using substrate, profile dimensions, finish and target price. Confirm available combinations for the selected size and quantity; the catalog does not specify every combination.
Build a coherent color and finish palette

Catalog finishes include Dark Walnut, Light Brown, Silver Oak, Black Wood Grain, Teak, Natural Wood Grain, White Oak, White Wood Grain and Natural Wood. Custom colors can also be discussed.
These names describe appearance, not necessarily timber species. Specify substrate and finish separately, and approve a physical sample for color, grain direction and corner continuity. Coordinate the frame with the sisal surface and surrounding furniture; a focused palette can connect different sizes and profiles.
Specify the complete mat-and-frame assembly

The catalog shows a backing board, sisal mat, outer frame and rear retaining tabs. Confirm finished dimensions, exposed scratching area, backing, edge treatment and retention method.
For a replaceable mat, verify rear access, replacement steps and spare-mat supply. A frame alone does not establish user replaceability. Review mat-to-backing retention and frame-to-wall mounting separately.
Turn the options into a clear buying brief
- Define channel, customer, target price and quantity.
- Select scratching-material composition, weave and appearance.
- Shortlist frame profile, substrate and finish.
- Specify outer size, exposed mat area, backing and replacement needs.
- Confirm mounting, packaging and customer information.
